NASA reveals killer ASTEROID screamed over Earth ’20 times closer than the Moon’

Scientists only spotted the potentially devastating space rock just six hours before it soared past the Earth.

The asteroid was passed within the ring of satellites which orbit the planet and soared just 9,000 miles over the Pacific Ocean.

Astronomers are calling for mankind to have a more sophisticated asteroid early warning system to give extra warning for these close shaves.

Boffins at the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona detected asteroid 2017 EA as it came screaming towards the Earth.

The 10-foot-wide space rock was spotted just six hours before its closest contact with the planet, according to the Center for Near Earth Object Studies.
